First Looks & Why I Love Them!
Doing a first look with your partner on your big day might not be a new trend, but it still is very much popular among couples as well as wedding photographers. But if you think that doing a first look would ruin the element of surprise that is reserved for when you walk down the aisle, I’d say IT WON’T. There would still be lots of emotions and things to convey to each other even if you do your big reveal minutes before. Doing a first look would only benefit you instead —be it calming your nerves or getting lots of stunning photographs.
The Magic of the First Look
During the first look, you and your partner see each other fully dressed in your wedding attire for the first time. The feeling of seeing your other half looking their best for an event that will make them one with you is oh-so-lovely! But the beauty of first looks is that they allow you to feel all of it and spend some sweet moments with your significant other in private. You get your partner’s undivided attention and realize that they are as happy and in a celebratory mood as you. You also get the chance to tell your partner how eager you are to enjoy the wonderful day with them. And if you have some last-minute things to share, first looks also give you the opportunity to talk to each other. In most cases, as I said earlier, they also instantly put you at ease.
A first look is great for your wedding photography too. Your hair and makeup have just been done. The flowers are fresh, and nothing is rumpled or out of place. In short, you are looking your best! And all of this means that you can get some amazing portraits done. You have more flexibility when it comes to where you want your photos to be taken and how much time you can spend on them. You don’t have the constraint of people waiting for you to start the party! First looks allow you to enjoy the cocktail hour with your family and guests because you won’t have to worry about missing out on your wedding images! Weddings are busy affairs, timelines run late, and the first thing that’s usually cut is the photo time. First looks ensure that you have plenty of stunning wedding images in your album!
A Note From My Personal Experience
I photograph so many weddings but, to be honest, I was super nervous on my wedding day! I couldn’t wait to see Ben, and I am SO glad that we chose to do a first look. I was able to see him and talk to him. Hear him tell me how beautiful I looked. It was a few moments just for us, and it felt magical! Plus, I got to shake out my nerves and get a big bear hug from him. So, I’d suggest you shed your inhibitions and go for a first look too!
