CJ and Helen were married on July 28th 2018, with a ceremony and reception at Succop Nature Park. I was so thrilled to be a part of this wedding!
CJ proposed to Helen while they were at the Be Our Guest restaurant in Disney’s Magic Kingdom for Helen’s 21st birthday. Helen and her mother were worried that CJ was getting sick from being out in the sun all day because he kept getting up to leave. But, he was actually trying to work out the details of the proposal with the staff.
Eventually, their waiter brought out a plate that said “Happily Ever After” on it, complete with a huge smile and an enchanted rose. CJ got down on one knee, and Helen was too shocked to process it! A little boy behind them saw what was going on and shouted, “Mom, look! Someone is proposing!” The whole ballroom went silent, waiting for her to say “yes,” and then everyone gave them a standing ovation!
Helen’s little brother actually slept through the proposal, but no worries—they asked him to be part of the wedding celebration in a different way! At first, they thought they’d have him walk down the aisle with their dog, but they realized a hyper toddler and an energetic dog might not be a good combo. So instead, their dog, Rory, was the “flower dog,” and Helen’s brother walked with her and her mom down the aisle with a sign that read: “Don’t worry ladies, I’m still single.”
It really was a great family event. I loved that Helen had her grandparents and great-grandparents there, too! And they made sure everyone was having a blast and enjoying the delicious food all day. They even surprised everyone with their choreographed dance routine!
I also love how CJ and Helen found a venue that fit their personalities and their vision of their wedding day. They both knew that they wanted an outdoor wedding under a beautiful tree. They looked through several different venues across several states, and while Succop was always on the list, Helen wasn’t sure about it until they took a tour . . . and immediately knew it was the perfect place for them. The staff was so professional, too! When they learned Succop only had one available date left in their 2018 wedding calendar, they snatched it up.
Helen & CJ, thank you for letting me be part of your amazing wedding day. It was such a pleasure to be your wedding photographer. I hope you had an amazing time honeymooning in Richmond and DC! Thanks also to my associate photographer and second shooter, Lizzy, and to my assistant, Mackenzie.
